Apostlebirds

The name given to apostlebirds (Struthidea cinerea) is a play-on stemming from the 12 Apostles of Jesus Christ, as these sociable birds are often found in groups of around 12. They belong to the family of birds called “mud-nesters,” so look in the undergrowth at Goondicum and you may see them all foraging together. In true Apostle fashion they also live harmoniously as a community, helping to build nests and care for the young ones.
